Davis-Standard buys Harrel

PAWCATUCK, CONN. (Oct. 27, 12:55 p.m. ET) -- Davis-Standard LLC is buying Harrel
Inc., a maker of small extruders for medical tubing and other markets, and will move
Harrel's operations from East Norwalk, Conn., to Davis-Standard headquarters in
Pawcatuck.
Davis-Standard will continue to offer the existing Harrel line, and key Harrel employees
will remain with the business, including David Madar, Harrel's President. Madar will join
Davis-Standard in a key role to continue customer support for the product line.
Harrel is best known for world-class technology for producing close tolerance medical
tubing.
One important extrusion innovation for Harrel is a technology that can produce
continuous tubing with compositions varying from 100 percent of one polymer to 100
percent of another polymer—including changing from a hard material to a soft material.
Davis-Standard said this system has been especially beneficial in demanding medical
tubing applications to create catheter products with unique design features. Davis-
Standard will have this technology available for demonstration at its Technical Center in
Pawcatuck.

well-known and respected brand name within the medical products industry. The
combination of Davis-Standard and Harrel will enable our joined forces to more
effectively support our customers to serve this growing market segment."
Harrel was founded by Holton Harris in 1958.
Another Harrel invention, the Tubetrol system, gives tight-tolerance closed loop control
of both outside and inside diameters and the thickness of each layer, as well as a fully
integrated extrusion line for bump or taper tubing.
